The 2013 Breadbox Folk Spring Concert Series wraps up the spring season with the Pomfret Invasion— featuring Sally Rogers, Howie Bursen, and Jeff Davis-- performing on Saturday, May 25 at 7:30 pm at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 220 Valley Street, Willimantic, CT.
Sally Rogers and Howie Bursen, whose harmonies will send shivers up your spine, have racked up a string of successes in songwriting, studio recording, and crowd pleasing displays of instrumental and vocal virtuosity. They have appeared on Garrison Keillor’s “A Prairie Home Companion” public radio show, and have toured from coast to coast.
Howie Bursen is known for his warm baritone voice, devilish sense of humor, inventive guitar arrangements, and red-hot banjo wizardry. Sally Rogers is known for her mesmerizing voice, and 15 solo recordings.
Rounding out the trio is Jeff Davis, a masterful musician, who plays fiddle, banjo, mandocello, guitar, spoons, jaw’s harps and some instruments made by folk craftsmen. One of America’s most respected collectors and interpreters of traditional music, Davis has traveled far to visit “source singers”--farmers and miners who remembered the old songs and tunes--and closer at hand to libraries and archives, always look for the best of the music that was once common in our towns and villages.
Admission is $10.00. Proceeds support the Covenant Soup Kitchen and Emergency Food Pantry. Check back for fall events at www.breadboxfolk.org. For reservations, call Bruce John at 860-429-4220.
